NEW RUNNERS SPARK T-WOLVES
Under warm and muggy conditions and one solitary hill looming like a mountain in the distance, the Living Word Lutheran boys cross country team cruised in a history setting performance on Tuesday, August 31, at UW-Fond du Lac. The team finished in second place out of twelve schools (ten with a complete squad).
The new runners made themselves known on this day, though. Senior Jon Buettner pushed teammate, David Rutkowski. Both received medals by placing in the top fifteen. Meanwhile, newcomers Matt Rosenheimer and Caleb Aschebrook made a statement in the fifth and sixth spots on the team. “It’s a total team effort,” said coaches Aaron Staub and Kurt Ziemann. “Everybody counts. It takes five.”
The second place finish marks the highest team finish in Living Word’s ten year history and certainly points to even better things in the future. The team’s next race is at Concordia University on Saturday.
RESULTS – (10) David Rutkowski 19:21; (13) Jon Buettner 19:54; (21) Zach Ziemann 20:49; (23) Johann Hinck 20:52; (32) Matt Rosenheimer 21:36; (36) Caleb Aschebrook; and on JV (52) Garrett Stremski 32:14
YOUNG T-WOLVES MAKE BIG IMPRESSION
The Living Word Lutheran girls cross country team certainly knows how to make a big impression. They finished second in an eight team cross country meet at UW-Fond du Lac on Tuesday, August 30.
The varsity team is extremely young with one senior, one sophomore, and three freshmen. Despite the inexperience, the girls sped through the course with ease despite the humid conditions. Becca Gosselin led the team followed by a solid wolfpack in Stephanie Rutkowski, Lauren Weiss, and Katie Ziemann. The three freshmen held their own following Gosselin’s lead. All four girls medalled being all in the top fifteen.
Lone senior, Taylor Brown, gutted out a tough performance despite being sick. Her finish was enough to secure the second place team finish. Last year, Brown ran all by herself. So this year is an exciting change for her. The future looks good as the girls continue to work hard behind Brown’s lead. The team’s next race is at Concordia University on Saturday.
RESULTS – (4) Becca Gosselin 17:57; (9) Stephanie Rutkoswski 18:22; (10) Lauren Weiss 18:23; (12) Katie Ziemann 18:29; (28) Taylor Brown 20:08; and on JV (31) Taylor Lorenz 31:50
