T-WOLVES MAKE GREAT STRIDES
The Living Word boys cross country team cruised to a fourth place finish out of eleven schools at the Red Raider Invitational at Concordia University on Saturday, September 4. They missed third by just one point. All runners ran their personal bests for the season and several ran all-time personal records.
David Rutkowski (17:49) passed several runners in the last mile to claim 3rd overall. The other medal winner was Jon Buettner (18:31) who claimed 10th despite a cold and nagging soccer aches. Zach Ziemann (19th) ran an all-time personal record breaking the 19 minute barrier with Johann Hinck (25th) not far behind. The battle for the fifth spot got more interesting as freshman Caleb Aschbrook (53rd) overtook Sophomore Matt Rosenheimer (58th). Both had all-time personal records and are edging up on Hinck and Ziemann. JV Garrett Stremski also set an all-time personal record.
The team crushed last year’s effort at this meet. They knocked off over three minutes in total time and dropped their finish from seventh (2009) to nearly third this year. They were just fifteen points away from their rivals, Lake Country Lutheran. Their next meet will be Tuesday, September 14th at Sheboygan Lutheran.
YOUNG LADY T-WOLVES CONTINUE TO IMPRESS
The Living Word Lutheran girls cross country team battled some tough competition at the Red Raider Invitational at Concordia University on Saturday, September 4. They finished fifth overall among twelve schools. Virtually every runner set all-time personal records.
Once again Sophomore Becca Gosselin led the team finishing 10th (17:00). The big story of the day was Freshman Stephanie Rutkowski’s breakthrough effort. She medalled in 13th place overall and running a personal record (17:12). The other two freshman, Lauren Weiss (21st) and Katie Ziemann (22nd), stayed close and broke the 18 minute barrier for the first time in their young running careers. Fifth runner, Taylor Brown (41st), set a milestone herself by breaking 19 minutes despite a nagging respiratory illness. JV Taylor Lorenz also set a personal record in her race by nearly two minutes.
The team was just ten points from the fourth place team, rivals Lake Country Lutheran. They were just 24 seconds away in total time from fourth and just a minute from the third place team. All the girls continue to gain experience and confidence. Their next meet will be Tuesday, September 14th at Sheboygan Lutheran.
