Boys Recap

Last year the Living Word Lutheran High School Boys Cross Country placed 13th at the Crusader Challenge at Sheboygan Lutheran. This year on September 14 the boys rose to 4th place tied with Milwaukee Lutheran among the twenty plus schools entered.

The improvement is dramatic and teams are beginning to notice. Seniors David Rutkowski (11th – 17:55) and Jon Buettner (18th – 18:19) continue to anchor the team.  Zach Ziemann (41st – 19:20) and Johann Hinck (49th – 19:32) are a solid three-four with new runners, Caleb Aschebrook (59 – 19:45) and Matt Rosenheimer (81 – 20:24) surging from behind. Aschebrook and Rosenheimer both set personal records and continue to
improve each meet. Meanwhile in the JV race Garrett Stremski set another personal record.

The team’s next race is Saturday, September 18th at the St. Lawrence Seminary
near Fond du Lac.

Girls Recap
The Living Word Lutheran High School Girls Cross Country also showed they are among the area’s top teams. They tied for third place with Cedar Grove-Belgium at the Crusader Challenge at Sheboygan Lutheran on September 14 among over twenty area schools. This is most impressive when you consider they only had one girl runner in last year’s race.

Senior Taylor Brown was that runner last year, and she finds herself chasing one sophomore and three freshmen. Brown continues to get closer to the young pack every meet (68th – 19:02). She is starting to get her health back following an illness.

The team was led by Becca Gosselin (11th – 16:43) with Stephanie Rutkowski (15th – 17:00), Lauren Weiss (18th – 17:08), and Katie Ziemann (31st – 17:47) following not far behind. While Gosselin and Rutkowski both earned personal records, the day belonged to Lauren Weiss. Weiss shaved nearly thirty seconds off her best giving her a top twenty-five finish in the crowded field of 135 runners. Equally impressive was JV Taylor Lorenz’s improvement.

The team’s next race is Saturday, September 18th at the St. Lawrence Seminary near Fond du Lac.
