It turns out that last year’s second place team finish at the WLA Invite in Fond du Lac on Tuesday, August 30, was just a preview of what was to come. This year the girls took first as a team behind the four medal performances of Becca Gosselin, Stephanie Rutkowski, Lauren Weiss, and Katie Ziemann and a strong fifth varsity finish by Rachel Gosselin. The Lady T-Wolves fended off a pesky second division team from Peshtigo.
The race saw Peshtigo storm off in a tight pack only to have the wolf pack gobble them up one by one. Becca Gosselin even captured the lead at one point. Rutkowski, Weiss, and Ziemann followed not far behind. If these runners can stay together and improve, the year looks promising for a return to state.
While there are four strong runners returning, what makes this year’s team exciting is that it has plenty of back-up. New runners, Rachel Gosselin, Annalise Jasinski, Emilie Wipperfurth, Jamie Heberer, and exchange student Ella Buyn are filling the two graduated senior’s shoes, Taylor Brown and Taylor Lorenz, beautifully. All their times should drop as they begin to understand and conquer the 4K race distance. The team’s next race is at Concordia University on Saturday.
