The Living Word Lutheran girls volleyball team, currently ranked #2 in the state in division 4, ran its unbeaten string to 22 matches Saturday while winning the Crusader Invite at Central Wisconsin Christian in Waupun. The Timberwolves defeated the host team, Central Wisconsin Christian 25-9 and 25-19, and then Fond du Lac St. Mary's Springs 25-21 and 25-11 in pool play to advance to the Gold Pool.
They then went on to defeat Kenosha Christian Life 25-23, 14-25, 15-11, and then beat Racine Lutheran 25-11 and 25-21 to win the championship. Both Kenosha Christian and Racine Lutheran received Honorable Mention recognition in the state division 3 rankings.
Jen Schleg led Living Word with 36 kills, Karina Klotz had 46 assists and 8 aces, and Chanel Stelmachowicz had 36 digs. Taylor Luce had a good all-around day with 24 kills, 32 assists and 24 digs.
The girls continue conference play on Tuesday night at Living Word against Dominican. Freshman matches begin at 4:30.
