Elkhart Lake 47  Living Word 30

The Timberwolves got off to a blazing 6-0 lead but then went cold for the rest of the 1st half trailing 17-12 at the break.  The highly touted Resorters used their experience and size advantage to stretch the lead in the second half.  The girls sliced the lead to five late in the third quarter but could get no closer the rest of the way.

Junior Sara Meinert (St. Paul) led the way with 10 pts. and five steals.  Sophomore Taylor Luce (St. John WB) had 11 rebounds and two blocks as she played stellar interior defense on an imposing 6’1” center from Elkhart.  Senior Courtney Slak (Living Word) scored seven points including a perfect five for five from the charity stripe.

Overall a 29% shooting night doomed an excellent defensive effort by the Timberwolves.

Coach Stelmachowicz commented “I was pleased with our defensive tenacity, hustle, and effort.  We have to eliminate our turnovers, shoot the ball better, and tighten up our offensive execution.  Ironically, we gave up the same number of points in this game as we did in the regional final last year.  The ‘D’ is there, so now we need to find some offense.”
