The girls basketball team traveled to Concordia University Chicago to take on the Lutheran North Crusaders in a holiday event. Living Word prevailed 37-36 in a very evenly contested game. The Crusaders were a hot team, winning their last seven games in a row. Amanda Schuelke responded with her best game of the year as she poured in a team high 16 points. Sarah Meinert added 13 points and 10 rebounds. The Timberwolves were ahead by one at the half, 16-15 and held a 27-25 margin heading into the 4th quarter. Key baskets late in the 4th quarter by Taylor Luce and Meinert gave Living Word a 37-33 margin with a minute to play. The girls withstood a three point play to hold on to the slim margin. The girls shot 38% from the field for the game. "This game was a microcosm of our season so far--good, scrappy defense allows us to keep games close. It was a good win over a team that was on a winning streak," commented Coach Stelmachowicz.
