What can you expect from the Guidance Department?

  • Help with college applications for seniors
  • Scholarship information and applications
  • Transcripts sent to colleges in a timely manner
  • Answers to financial aid questions
  • Help with logging volunteer hours for college applications and NHS
  • Career exploration through various career inventories and links to helpful websites
  • Freshman-Senior college planning
  • Info on college fairs, career fairs, and financial aid workshops
  • Help with accommodations and study skills for students with special needs
  • Individualized assistance with test taking, oral tests, and other modifications for students with learning disabilities
  • Individualized scheduling sessions to ensure that students are taking the right classes, getting challenged, and meeting all requirements for graduation on time
  • Counseling on an as-needed basis per student or parent requests
  • Referrals to counselors in the area when necessary
  • Various assemblies and workshops for students and parents throughout the year on college, scholarships, financial aid, teen sexuality, and peer pressure
  • Assistance for incoming freshmen and transfer students and their families – shadowing, applying, open houses, high school placement testing, and scheduling
  • Help and information on summer schools, online courses, and independent studies for graduation credits when necessary
  • Info on and help registering for the SAT and ACT
  • Standardized test offerings to all grades – EXPLORE test, PLAN test, PSAT, and ASVAB test
  • Connections to internships at businesses in the area as well as volunteer opportunities throughout the year
  • Opportunities throughout the year to meet with various representatives from colleges, universities, and all branches of the military
  • Coordination of all Advanced Placement classes and exams

Scholarships for Seniors (Class of 2012):

  • Aurora Medical Center Healthcare Scholarship - $1000 to a senior planning to pursue a career in healthcare - based on post-application interview, academics, extra-curriculars, interests, community service, and financial need - due Feb. 10 - see Mrs. Ehley for application
  • UW Madison Actuarial Science Scholarship - $8000 scholarship based on mathematical aptitude and interest in the actuarial science major at UW Madison - due Feb. 15 - (follow link for application) 
  • University of Dayton Leadership in Service Scholarship - $10,000 scholarship based on service within school, church and/or community (not academics) - if you are at all interested in the University of Dayton and have a lot of volunteer hours, see Mrs. Ehley - due Feb. 15
  • Washington County American Legion Scholarship - $500 to a child or grandchild of a US Veteran - due March 1 - see Mrs. Ehley for application  
  • Pagel Graphic Arts Scholarship - $500-$1500 to a senior planning to pursue a degree in the print communications industry - based on academics, activities, and financial aid - due March 15 - see Mrs. Ehley for application  
  • Wisconsin American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships and National American Legion Auxiliary Scholarships - to children and grandchildren of US Veterans - several different scholarships with different eligibilty requirements - due March 15 - see Mrs. Ehley or  follow links for applications
  • Washington County Council American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship - $500 to a child or grandchild of a US Veteran - due March 15 - see Mrs. Ehley for application
  • Jackson Firefighters Association Scholarship - $1000 to a Jackson resident with a 3.0 or higher who has done some community service - due March 15 - see Mrs. Ehley for application
  • Jackson Firefighters Association Scholarship - $2000 to a senior who intends to pursue at least a 2-year program related to firefighting, emergency medical services, or a medical field in the state of WI - due March 15 - see Mrs. Ehley for application
  • Richfield Lioness Club Scholarship - $1000 to a Richfield resident - due March 23 - see Mrs. Ehley for application
  • Wisconsin Antique Power Reunion Scholarship - $1000 to a senior planning to pursue a field of study in or related to agriculture - due April 1 - see Mrs. Ehley for application
