COVID-19 Plan for 2020-2021 School Year
Click here for our detailed campus re-opening plan.
If parents should decide that online education is best for their family at this particular time, they must notify the school in writing by Monday, August 10. Online education will be available the entire school year, however, families must commit to at least one quarter at a time.
A Message from Dave Miskimen, Executive Director
Back in early June when our faculty and staff met to close out the school year, as well as do some planning for the fall of 2020, we put together some parameters for re-opening in August. Then, our leadership team refined and packaged our plan, reviewed several times, and waited to release it.
We waited for several reasons, among which were the ever-changing bits of research and developments regarding our knowledge of COVID-19, the Wisconsin DPI planning to communicate a set of guidelines for opening, and our wish to adapt as needed. I am happy to say that our initial drafts seem to have been on point. Specifically, we had already planned on what have now been communicated as reasonable measures by several entities. As I communicate our plan, please keep in mind that we remain adaptable to common-sense measures and are set up to peel back layers as we are comfortably able.
First, LWLHS will be having full school days, 5 days per week as we normally would. We will have the option of a student whose parents declare as such to complete their coursework at least to start the year on-line via Google classroom. In many ways COVID-19 and the unknown have been allowed to hijack our lives, especially our kids' Christian education. The time has come to move forward in confidence, care, and common sense.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil. This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones” (Proverbs 3:5-8).
Living Word has developed a series of common-sense measures to mitigate risk of contracting COVID-19 while at school, which will include:
maintaining recommended distances among students
adaptations to study halls and gathering for chapel
eliminating the sharing of supplies and equipment
regimented disinfecting practices
one-way hallway and stairwell traffic
eating lunches in classrooms
making masks optional and available at no charge for those who wish to take this measure.
Furthermore, we have invested in additional teachers and class sections to allow for even smaller class sizes when possible.
We are committed to operating within the suggested parameters without compromising the level of community and opportunities experienced at LWLHS. Thank you for entrusting us with the honor of educating your child in a culture that seeks to honor our Lord and walk more closely with Him.
