What is the Junior Winds Ensemble?

Living Word Lutheran High School has a youth honors ensemble, called the Junior Winds, which is available by audition to 6th – 8th grade students who have already had at least one full year of lessons on their instruments.
Rehearsals will be Tuesday evenings at Living Word Lutheran High School (2230 Living Word Lane, Jackson, WI 53037) from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. The first rehearsal date is Tuesday, August 30, 2022. Students are able to join after the first rehearsal date.
The LWL Junior Winds is meant to complement, not replace, a student’s school music program. If students are invited to participate in LWL Junior Winds, they are also required to be participating in their schools’ band programs. Home-schooled students should be taking lessons in addition to their Junior Winds participation.
2022-2023 Information
The first rehearsal is Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 6:30-7:45 PM. Students are able to join after the first rehearsal date.
There will be three performances where the LWL Junior Winds will have the opportunity to play with the high school’s Concert Band and Symphonic Band. Those dates are:

Video Audition Information
Students can upload a recording of their auditions as an unlisted YouTube link. To upload the recording, simply (1) Create a YouTube account; (2) Select “Upload Video” icon; (3) Select the video file of the recording, click the dropdown icon, and select “unlisted”; (4) Click publish. Once posted, the link will not be public. Only the people who are sent the link are able to view the video. Once you upload the unlisted link to YouTube, please email the link to skrueger@lwlhs.com.
For their audition, students are asked to play one octave of a concert B-flat ascending and descending scale in addition to two minutes of a prepared solo or concert music. This music can include several shorter excerpts from a lesson book, excerpts from their band music that showcase their instrument, or part of a longer solo. Please submit auditions and registration forms by the Monday before the first rehearsal that the student would like to attend.
